Allen is among the safest cities in the United States, according to a recently released survey.

Allen ranked ninth among 385 cities surveyed in CQ Press' annual city crime rankings.

Frisco ranked 16th and Plano came in at 51st, according to the CQ Press news release.

Dallas ranked 352 -- 33 spots ahead of New Orleans, which finished last. Ramapo, NY, topped the list for the first time.

The survey ranks cities and metropolitan areas by calculating crime based on the number of murders, rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries and motor vehicle thefts. The survey includes areas with at least 75,000 people.
