An Exciting Opportunity!
Leadership Allen is a program offered by the Allen Chamber of Commerce to any interested individual who lives or works in Allen, or is a member of the Chamber. This dynamic program has been created to support the development of corporate and community leaders by:
Introducing participants to the various aspects of developing & maintaining a vibrant community.
Establishing dialogue with a wide range of community leaders.
Encouraging active participation in activities which contribute to the betterment of Allen; and...
Providing employers with a source of knowledgeable and trained leaders who can have a positive impact on the business community.
Civic Leadership Training
One of the primary goals of Leadership Allen is to identify, motivate, and encourage civic leaders. Each month, participants are introduced to a different aspect of the Allen community, including city government & services, education, health & human services, economic development and justice & law enforcement.
Class members
Members have the opportunity to meet with key leaders, tour facilities, and participate in simulations to develop a better understanding of what it takes to manage a growing and dynamic community like Allen. Through these programs, participants quickly begin to see how they can be involved in shaping and infl uencing the future of Allen. Graduates are encouraged to actively contribute to Allen’s growth through ongoing personal service.
Corporate Leadership Training
In addition to learning more about the community, Leadership Allen participants have the opportunity to build their leadership skills through targeted learning seminars that are part of each month’s program, as well as two full days of leadership training and teambuilding. Leadership Allen has contracted with local experts in the field of leadership development to provide interactive sessions covering a variety of leadership topics such as effective communication, building high-performing teams, and establishing and maintaining trust.
Application Process
Leadership Allen is open to all Allen residents or members of the Allen Chamber of Commerce. An admission application for 2010=2011 is available from the Allen Chamber of Commerce at 210 West McDermott in Allen or by calling (972) 727-5585. The make up of each Leadership Allen class is carefully considered to ensure that it is broad based, representing a variety of professional, economic, social and ethnic backgrounds. Because class size is also limited to 15, this means that many highly qualified applicants may not be placed the first year they apply.
Program Details
The Leadership Allen class meets one day per month, from September through May from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Participants also attend a day and a half orientation program and complete a class project of their own choosing during the year, but outside of the class time.
Program Cost
Total cost for the 9-month program is $650 for Allen-Fairview Members and their employees and $750 for non members plus a $25 registration fee. The fee includes lunches, speaker fees, materials and transportation if necessary. Payment for participants is due by September 20, 2010.
Personal Development Training
Finally, Leadership Allen supports the development of individual leadership skills by providing a unique opportunity for participants to apply what they are learning through the selection and implementation of a class project. This hands-on learning activity gives class members insight into their own personal leadership style and provides a greater understanding of what it takes to effectively move a group of people toward the achievement of a common goal.
